When Automatic Spelling Correction Goes Wrong
OK ..... I got a text from Phenomoshel (that was you, right?) while I was in the middle of an exam and several tests by the doctors.
I grabbed my iPhone and thought I texted back "in docs appt" meaning I was busy being poked and prodded and generally made miserable. When I looked back at what was actually sent (after a few hours) my text read "in dogs spot." Any other additions out there? |

given who was sending the texto, i bet she thought that was a perfectly normal and unsurprising message.

With you, RM, nothing would surprise us, and we would understand completely, knowing you have reasons for everything you do.............

Erm.. actually, it wasn't me. I didn't text you yesterday because I saw you running around on here so assumed you were ok. I'm VERY relieved to hear that you went to the doctor, however!
But DG is correct. Had I been the recipient of the text, I probably would have assumed you were cleaning out the doghouse or something and wouldn't have been worried. |

LOL love it 'in dogs spot'
My Nokia predicitive text has started using Poppy instead of sorry. Poppy is the name of my cat, so my girlfriend often gets text saying 'Poppy running late'. Strangely, the cat rarely gets to go visit her........ |

I always like what they do to names. A friend used to co-author papers with someone whose name always came out as Husseys Sedan....
Hmmm... (Goes off to try something) On my settings in Word, Maveety comes out as Majesty..... |

Years ago in London as a seccy I used to have to type worldwide a lot and often used to get it wrong and type wordwork... the word the spell checker offered me as an alternative was Gnissoid.
It still ranks as one of the most splendidly random things that has ever happened to me. |

In German, when you write DNA in MS Word it comes out DANN (then in translation). DNA is pretty much the most common word I write and it is extremely annoying. Even made me dig in and correct the spell checker/auto corrector.

We had a great one back in the early days. We had a very laid back Liberian trumpeter called Melvin Reeves. The spell check corrected him to "Mellow Reefer".
