Bookeen releases new model of CyBook: CyBook Gold
Our good friend Kurt, from BooksOnBoard, informs us that Bookeen appear to have snuck out a new model of the CyBook, apparently without telling anybody!
The new model, the CyBook Gold, has 1GB storage space (up from 512MB on the previous model), an 8 greyscale eInk screen (previous models supported only 4), and supports ePub and PDF with Adobe ADE. The package includes the CyBook itself, a black cover, earphones, a USB cable, and a European AC adaptor (which will not be supplied to US customers). The package is priced at US$349; there appears to be no mention of this device as yet on Bookeen's site. For more information, please see the BooksOnBoard site here. Yes, that's an error; it's 8.

As a matter of fact, resolution always goes by a factor of 8. 10 would be technically unfeasible.

When it comes to binary numbers, there are 10 types of people. Those that understand them and those that don't. |

Not a factor of 8, but a factor of 2, 1bit = Black & White, 2bit = 4 level of gray, 3 bit = 8 level of gray, 4 bit = 16 level of gray, 5 bits = 32 levels of gray etc...

Sadly, you can't get it from BoB's UK web site. if you go there and navigate to the Gen3 reader link you get
"This item is not for sale in the UK." Richard |

I'm sure it'll appear on Bookeen's site at some point.

This appears to be the same hardware as the Astak Mentor Lite Version 2, i.e. a Netronix EB600 with an Epson Broadsheet controller.

What? Are they kidding. That's $100 more than a Nook, Kindle or EZ Reader, $50 more than a PRS-600. The Astak Mentor is $239. Isn't that basically the same device?
Why would a US person spend $50-$100 extra on this? What about it is worth that premium? BOb Last edited by pilotbob; 11-21-2009 at 12:34 PM. |

It does include a case, remember. You don't get a case with the Kindle, and you only get a carrying pouch with the PRS-600.
