Unexpected Missing Generic Font Family (Style Sheet.css)

When using Run Check in Edit Book I sometimes come up with an "Unexpected Missing Generic Font Family (Style Sheet.css)” error.
I then use: Tools>Manage Fonts>Select Font>Remove Selected Font.
This results in no error when Run Check is rerun.
However sometimes there is only one font and to clear the error message this one and only font requires deleting. Therefore no fonts showing in style sheet or font folders. Yet the epub still displays correctly in Calibre and my ereader.
Why therefore does the epub display correctly when Edit Book shows no font?
I apologise if this is an obtuse question but I am really puzzled over it.

When specifying a font, you should also include a fallback font.
eg. You have this in your css file... font-family: "ATSackersGothic";
You need to add a fallback font... font-family: "ATSackersGothic", sans-serif;
The fallback font is the "Generic Font Family" the checker is asking for.

You don't need to embed any fonts in your ebook as the ereader will just use the default fonts installed on the ereader.

Because the fonts are not properly embedded.. They need part of the ePub and then properly referenced in the CSS. Yes it's working int he ePub because on the Kobo, it's picking up the fonts from the names of the fonts the system has. But if you want to read the ePub say in the calibre viewer, the embedded font will not display.
