Genre in postings
How do you like the Genre information in eBook uploads? Would you care if it went away sometime in the future?

I think I would care very much. Imagine, you think you're downloading a rollicking Western, and end up with a Romance; or your after a Page-turning Mystery and end up with a travel guide. Waste of bandwidth and time for all concerned.
More importantly, if you're looking for NON-fiction, and end up with fiction; or books for kids and end up with some bawdy Victorian novel. I'd like to be able to ADD Genre information to a book. I realize that anyone can place a review in the comments section. Can anyone request a change or addition to the "sorting" tags? Thanks. Kathy |

I think the genre prefixes are not reliable, or consistent, so I usually hardly pay any attention to them. I read the description and search on the net if necessary.
You cannot modify the prefix, but I believe anyone can modify the tags (look for an "Edit tags" link on the bottom right). |

I think they can be helpful for browsing older uploads, even if they are not always reliable. Instead of removing the genre information, some more genres should be added, or at least one: it’s an abomination, IMHO, that ‘literary’ texts have to be indexed with ‘Other Fiction’.

"Literary" would be a useful category indeed.

The genres are obviously biased towards pulp, at least for fiction. According to the wiki, it seems to me many of the "literary" works would be classified as "Romance" (books about relationships between people).
