V2 Version 2
Well i've received a newer version of the V2 with updated software.
They've concentrated on the bookmarking and display side of the software. The initial start menu has changed slightly and is a little clearer than the old one. They've also added a sub menu for PDF's so you can browse by chapter. The page turn seems a microsecond slower than the original software but this means far less ghosting than originally. I'm currently reading one book and i reckon i've read for about 6 hours with 4 reboots, and the battery indicator shows i've lost just 1 bar so the battery life is waaaay improved. The input screen has been fully disabled except for displaying various categories. They've also enabled the book marking feature that gives you the ability to place 3 book marks per document. |

<rant>oh, I thought i'd put a shot of the standard nokia phone battery used to power the device, other manufacturers should take note, sealed or non-standard batterys are a joke and insult to customers.</rant>
Congratulations to Jinke for using the Nokia battery (and here's hoping the get a European/american OEM to create/distribute the device) |

Nice to hear you have v.2 of the V2 now...:-)
Question: You said the small input screen is deactivated...why? |

The previous versions I had, did have some limited functionality on the input screen (the ability to scroll around a zoomed PDF, and a slider for page numbers) I'm guessing they're concentrating on getting the display software sorted first,so they can get the V2c out the door sooner rather than later to compete with the sony reader and the starebook, then concentrate on the V2 after. |

I suppose I oughta update this as I haven't posted for a while.
I received a software update from Jinke to add new functionality (maybe even the input screen) Unfortunately it failed to install correctly and it took a while and some excellent work by their engineers to enable me to reflash the device back to an older version. I'll be installing a newer version once they complete it. Meanwhile it's currently working on par with the sony device. It has great page turn speed, and the battery life is phenominal. The bookmarks are working and i've already read a couple of novels on it. I have to admit going back to soft or hardback books is annoying as they feel cumbersome in my hand. (I think this is because i place the V2 with it's back cover out so it's a pyramid and read lying on my side whilst in bed) I only have to click the button for each page rather than hold a book splayed open. |

Gladto hear you're still hanging on...:-)
I'm waiting for my STAReBOOK right now to ewview that. I'd have loved to review the V2, but Jinke never managed to send me a review sample...:-) |
