websites for reading books online?
I have lately been finding that the only place I can read at work is on a laptop. During lunch or whatever I can pull out the Sony, but I don't really have my own workspace so during the day when I have breaks, the only place I can sit is in the mini-lab near the main office (I work in a school). So I was hoping to find a website where I can do some reading on-line.
I found Page by Page books, and it's almost what I want. Books are split up by chapter and each chapter has numbered pages so you can resume where you left off. But there is no ability to log in as a registered user and have it remember your preferences, and that is the one thing which would make it the perfect solution for me. If I could log in, choose a book, read for awhile and then when I go back later, log in and have it resume where I left off, that would be perfect. Can anyone think of a website that does what I want? Ideally, I would have two books going at once, one on the Sony and one on the website to read during breaks at work... |

For public domain stuff there's wikisource, and the html versions of texts at gutenberg. But it's hard to keep track of where you left off since the text is presented in big chunks, often the whole book on one page.
There's also Wowio, which I have bookmarked but never used. I understand they offer mostly comic books. That's all I have, but then I don't like reading online. I'm sure others will have better links |

What you are describing is really the direction Amazon and B&N are going (Amazon is already there for PC users). With the Kindle software installed on your Kindle, iPod Touch/iPhone, and PC, you really do have access to your book (and your place in your book) from everywhere. And the Nook promises the same. Perhaps Sony will join the party.
