How to Update the Firmware
1. Download the rar file, and uncompress. 2. Copy the SmartQ7 file to the root of a FAT32 formatted SD card (standard card you have is probably fine.) 3. Turn off your Q7. Insert the SD card. 4. Hold down the Function key (the one with the menu, on the front -- next to the + and - keys) and connect the charger. 5. Sit back and let the firmware load. The machine will boot itself into the new version. At least, that's how it worked when I installed Mer -- can't imagine it's different with the new one. I'm downloading it now. Somebody confirm? m a r Last edited by Nate the great; 06-25-2009 at 01:46 PM. |

Q7 - v3.0 firmware - Hints and Tricks
Language Menu
Click the icon in the upper left corner. When the menu opens, select the third icon from the bottom, and then select "Language". You have to actually turn off the device for the settings to take affect. Last edited by Nate the great; 06-20-2009 at 01:47 AM. |

enabling double click
Click and hold somewhere on the desktop for about 3 seconds. when the menu pops up, select desktop preferences. There is a box under the General tab that needs to be unchecked.
The default on the 3.0 firmware is to open files with a single click. It annoys the heck out of me. Last edited by Nate the great; 06-20-2009 at 01:47 AM. |

Power Management menu
In the upper right corner there is a brightness icon. Click it, and then click the Setup button.
It's not a very good menu, but it is adequate. Last edited by Nate the great; 06-20-2009 at 01:48 AM. |

restoring the mouse pointer
I have found a easy method to let the mouse pointer appear. Rename of delete the folder /home/user/.icons/, then reboot it.

If anyone tries this through the file manager and can't find the folder, it's becuase Linus hides anything that starts with a period. You'll need to navigate to /home/user, and type in /.icons to get the folder. |

Error message: You don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives/.
You might get this error message while installing a program with apt-get. It happened becuase the Q7 saves a copy of everything you install to that folder. The fix is relatively simple. Type the following command to delete the contents of that folder. sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb |

sudo apt-get clean is a more elegant method. Works with the packaging system.

date this will show you the full date, time, and timezone. Now to change the timezone type sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata and walk through selecting e.g. America then tab to OK then select the city in your time zone then tab to OK. Now your time zone is changed (info courtesy of jmaky2k at ill-logix.com) |
