Kobo Libra 2 - How to go back and forth in a book?

A book I'm reading has a map near the front and a list of characters near the back.
How can I take a quick look at the map, and then come back to where I was reading?
On the kindle there is a "go to" where one can enter a page number or location.
But how is it done on the Kobo?

Table of contents, and bookmarks. create a bookmark simply by tapping top right of the page you want to mark. Use the Annotations button (when you open the menus, at bottom right) to find your bookmarks. (Remember to bookmark the page your on before leaving.)

And you can come back simply by tapping "Back to page xxx".

True, but easy to loose your back if you jump around more than once. I like have a quick bookmark before I leave my reading position.

The patch for increasing the number of dots on the navigation bar is very helpful for situations like these. You can just tap the dot to jump to a frequently used spot.

I think bookmarks are handy. That's what they are for.

Go to https://pgaskin.net/kobopatch-patches/

Download the zip file for the firmware that your device uses (filenames match firmware builds). There's a readme in the zip file that gives basic instructions for use. You'll probably also want to download a copy of the relevant firmware from https://pgaskin.net/KoboStuff/kobofirmware.html

There's also a relevant thread in this forum, but I can't immediately find it.

Well I circumvent by opening the book in the Calibre viewer and then print a screenshot on paper by the map. Much more convenient than going back and forth in the ebook.

Yes, this is a major drawback of e-books over printed ones. This and the fact that graphic rendition is not very good on e-ink screens are the reasons why I still buy print versions of many books (primarily non-fiction).

For non-fiction books, I convert them to Kepub format, to enable the preview/windows pop-up for footnotes. So I don't have to go back and forth to read the footnotes in the book.

Well, yes, that might help with footnotes (although my fingertip to type size ratio is such that I find it very difficult to touch the right spot to open the footnote). But it's no help at all graphics, which are (for me) a bigger issue. Many of the non-fiction books that I read have important images of one sort or another.

Whilst I have some interest in subject that don't rely on images (e.g., law, politics) my primary non-fiction interests are scientific (e.g., physics, geology).

With Kepub format, you just double-tap on the image, and it will appear as a panel zoom

Still very poor contrast and no colour. No use to me.

(And please don't suggest a colour device. I've tried colour e-ink, and it still suffers from dreadful contrast and muted colours. Emitted light screens are unacceptable to me for other reasons.)
