I typed 'irex' on google just because then the above site address came out and I visited there. There was only one sentence:'coming soon'. Does it mean something?

It looks like the domain name was not renewed and someone recently (re-)registered it under their name in Japan.

Looks like that's a cybersquatter. I don't think www.irextechnologies.com was ever their official site though, was it? I know they had www.irexnet.com, don't remember if there were others.

A little bit of googling shows that the person has multiple domains (about 20) on his name. The only thing they seem to contain is a (google) advertising link, so I assume the domain is bought/registered to profit from the 'old visitors' of the site to generate advertising money.

"iRex" went bankrupt and is closed. There is a new company called "IRX" that, last we heard, is working on the firmware. I don't think we really know yet what their plans are for it. There hasn't been a lot of information about the new company yet.

No, it did not redirect.

I looked at them with the WaybackMachine. Seems they were seperate sites for some time, possibly mirrors, until they started redirecting irexnet.com to irextechnologies.com.


bokjeid, there might still be a firmware update as the DR800 was picked up from the shreds of the company, though not marketed to consumers anymore - see other threads for more info.

In the past, I also heard that DR800 would be for business market, not for consumers but there was no updated news w.r.t. the firmware update for a long time so I just wondered..
Anyway it sounds great that there might still be a firmware update.

there might be an new update? that would be a big surprise to me, but I would like that very much. The reader is absolute super and I'm very glad we got a couple. that way I assured for years reading with this device.
however, it would be great if an update came out where it solves the problem of getting extremely slow when you use marking pages and annotations. that problem never got away with us.

I would say to Gertjan and the gang: go for it and get us please an update.
