Kindle Voyage bugs ('application error' etc.)
I'm still trying out the Kindle Voyage and have had it for two weeks. When I turn it on for the first time of the day, I'd say every other day it has that bug:
It's stuck in the book I was reading when it went into sleep mode; no way to use the home button or dictionnary, or anything, only page turns, go to, and I think frontlight setting. It displays the message "The selected application could not be started, try again" whatever I try to do. If I turn off the screen and turn it back on, it gives a black screen with a keyboard at the bottom. If I try the short restart, nothing happens. The only way to un-bug it is a long restart (pressing the on button for 20 sec.) I've read some similar statements in the comments at Amazon.com. Do you guys get anything like this? Do you think a software update could correct it? Does your Kindle Voyage have any bug? (That's annoying because other than that and the surprisingly low battery life, my KV has none of the screen problems people complain about...) |

Unfortunately I think your voyage needs to be returned.

Has this happened with multiple books, or with the same book? I am wondering if this could be caused a corrupt book file.

I'm in the process of returning a Voyage that had the same problem. (Multiple Factory Resets didn't fix the problem.) There's some speculation as to what went wrong with it, as it was working fine for the first 4, or 5, days that I had it. But... I'm thinking that it was either a corrupted book file, or some active content that I ran. (The Voyage doesn't support active content, which I didn't know at the time.)
I'm curious, did you run any active content? Best of luck... but I think you need to return that Voyage and get a different one. |

It could be a corrupt file. I'd try a factory restart to clear out your data, and only load a couple of books and see if that works. If the problem continues after a factory reset, definitely request a replacement.

Thank you for your answers!
It happens with several books. I didn't try to use Active content. I guess I'll request a replacement. Quote:
But how could be a corrupt file problem in your case if several factory resets didn't help? This is unfortunate. |

Offie, have you tried a Factory Reset? One corrupted book file can cause problems no matter which ebook you are actively reading.

Today it did the bug twice. The second time it happened on the home page: error message, screen went blank, long reset needed.
I'll do a factory reset now and see what happens tomorrow. |

Application error bug - another experience
I have a new Voyage, almost clean - just 5 books downloaded from my collections. I get the "Application Error" routinely (3 times yesterday, twice today). The only immediate solution is to power down the unit and let it reboot. All is well after reboot for a short while, then the problem recurs. Someone has posted what they describe as "the solution" - resetting the Voyage. I have tried that and, just like rebooting, it has an immediate benefit. But after turning it off for about 30 minutes, I am back to Application Error.
I called Amazon and, after having seen this discussion thread, was discouraged to learn that their "specialists" have not heard of this problem. They are now sending me a replacement. |

New Voyage software. Will it help?
I just found that Amazon has released a software update for the Voyage. While the release notes are not specific about what performance adjustments Amazon has made (instead focusing on some new features), who knows - maybe they have found a solution to the Application Error problem. Here's hoping

No such luck. I installed the update this afternoon during a Kindle support chat. The rep told me it would take care of the problem. It didn't.

The new software has created a new problem
I installed the new version yesterday, and had a complete day without freezes. But, on turning it on this AM, I find that while I can continue reading the book that I had been reading last night, if I click the top of the screen to get the menu in order to select Home, I get the second line of the menu (Aa, Go To, X-Ray, etc) but not the first. So I cannot return to Home, and the second line of the menu does not go away.

More on Voage OS bugs
I spoke to Amazon support this AM. The good news, as reported just recently by someone else in this thread, is that the Application Error is a recognized problem, and Amazon apparently did think the problem is resolved. My issue with the new software had, according to them, not yet been reported. Fingers crossed

Same problems here, particularly after turning the device back on. I finally tried a factory reset last night and was disappointed to see this thread as I was hoping that would fix it. Haven't updated yet though.
