The 2023 Annual Reading Challenge Discussion Thread
2023 Reading Challenge Discussion Thread Welcome to our 14th Annual Reading Challenge! Maybe you would like to read a certain number of pages this year, finish a certain number of books, concentrate on a specific genre or deplete your ever-growing TBR list. Maybe you're looking for ideas or you just want to see how far you can go… This is the thread where we can share our personal goals and strategies or ask for suggestions and support. New ideas are encouraged and always welcomed. The Annual Reading Challenge is not a race, nor an “exclusive club”, anyone can join! This is just a fun activity that some of us have enjoyed doing in the past. Many of us have found reading challenges to be an entertaining way to set goals for ourselves, get ideas for books, and see what others are reading. You are welcome to keep track of the books you have read (or another goal) in the List Thread, here: Plus, if you would like to discuss a particular book, please participate in the Hey!! Let's get some action going! What are we reading? thread and share your thoughts about the book with others Last edited by pdurrant; 12-09-2022 at 05:59 AM. |

I shall probably just try to buy fewer books than I read.

I made a list of books I want to read in 2023 that I own and have not read yet. Maybe that will slow my spending down a bit.

There are some very good audiobook versions running around.

I'm still trying to think - some of mine will be repeat tasks I did okay at or still want to work on. I am also going to try and purchase less.

Do you have a recommendation? I have two audiobook versions of the Constance Garnett translation--one narrated by Davina Porter, the other by Lorna Raver. My libraries have the Louise and Aylmer Maude translation, narrated by Nadia May/Wanda McCaddon.

I am always partial to Davina whenever she is available.

I think I’d let the translation be the deciding factor and go for Maude over Garnett.

Oh dear. Sounds like I have an excuse to waffle over the decision and put off Anna again ...

That's on my list for this year as well. I picked up the audiobook (narrated by David Horovitch) and plan to listen to it while doing tedious cutting of scraps for quilting. I like Tolstoy, but length used to intimidate me. After a few Peter F Hamilton scifi's though, you realize that you can get past it and enjoy. Goal this year is 6 non-omnibus books over 600 pages.

Decided to add a small goal of reading more Valancourt published. Had several on wait-list that found at Ohio library, and had picked up some at Audible sales.
