Wysiwyg editor for someone used to FrontPage?
I hoped someone here may have suggestions.
My father (76) got a new computer with Win7 and can't run FrontPage anymore. So he charged me with finding a replacement. He's far from stupid, but sometimes I wonder about his computer literacy (or else he's just lazy) - I'm pretty sure direct HTML editing is out. The main content of the site will be a postmark collection - as far as I know, the site in question is still under development, so it's not like there's a full, working site that needs to be migrated. |

If all he wants to do is pretty simple and static site, Kompozer (http://www.kompozer.net/) should suit him well. It doesn't pollute code and being free, you won't feel bad throwing it away if you don't like it.
I'd also recommend Quanta Plus but unfortunately to you, it is only available for real operating systems. If Kompozer doesn't cut it, Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/) has rather decent HTML output as well. Oops sorry, forgot to mention, if everything else fails, let me know and I can give you NetObjects Fusion 7.5 for free (it is completely legal with real serial number, I got it with my hosting account years ago but because I don't have Windows, it's worthless to me). Many, many moons ago I used Evrsoft's First Page (http://www.evrsoft.com/1stpage3.shtml) that was 100% free. I think you now have to pay modest price for it and then there is the old stalwart, CoffeeCup (http://www.coffeecup.com/html-editor/) that has wysiwyg as well nowadays for a modest price of $49. I used to use both at work and at the time they were pretty good, I can only guess they have only got better since. Of course, if you want to pay few hundred $$ then Dreamweaver is probably the best option. Or install either Gvim or Emacs and tell him to get on with it |
