Hello from Australia
Hello All
I started out at about 10 i guess pulling everything apart ( to see how it ticks ) Still the same at age 42 I have been working for a electronics importing company for 26 years now ( pretty much my only job ) apart from being a paper boy at about age 14 A brief history of what I have been exposed to.. Paper Tape punches I used to go out onsite and repair these for customer. 8 Inch floppy drives We used to repair them and align the heads replace components etc Dumb Terminals We imported container load of VT100,VT52 etc dump terminals We even started to import X terminals and what the hell was a IP address I was all confused back in about 1989 when I was just used to 9600 baud being FAST !!! CPM & S100 rack CPM systems Thinking back it was kinda like a dos machine but some didnt have a CRT the console was a dump terminal. Plotters Ford purchased 54 inch wide plotters that would draw all the cad drawings using pens lots of powerfull motors and very fast moving paper you had to be carefull they would almost take your hand off.. We also sold smaller plotters DotMatrix , DailyWheel and print head printers We fixed these things unlike today you would rebuild the gearbox and clutch etc they were very expensive Laser Printers We were one of the first companies to import laser printers Fix repair upgrade etc Electronic test equipment Oscilloscopes Multimeters Sporectrum Analywers you name it if it was test equipmetn we sold it My position as technition / field service etc has changed now I do system integration of new products modify / add to value add for the customer. For example implement hardware and software to get some type of device we sell to log data and upload to the internet send SMS etc this involves writing code in may different formats.. C++ basic assembly etc We specilize in remote monitoring and control systems that may be located in hard to reach locations so we need remote automation. My current project is to get a E-ink touch screen to interface with some of our existing hardware ( hence being at this forum ) I discovered it would cost alot more to purchase a e-ink display and controller from china and develop my own hardware around it. The Kobo can do it all.. its been about 20 years since i got my hands dirt with linux so I am very rusty.. I have managed to get telnet over usb RNDIS and python and pygame working so i can write my own apps but have some hurdles to overcome. I am hoping somone can help. Also I am hoping that I can be of some help to others Cheers ![]() |
