Interesting. Installation was smoothe and everything works fine. I have DE on the Mac but see no way to get stuff onto the Reader on the Mac. Need more time to tinker.

Inserting the device in Parallels running Windows, DE detects and authorizes the device.

Copied over ebook, all is well. The initial scan of the books on the memory card took quite a while, longer than usual, but I don't know if it's the DRM of just the amount of books.

According to what was said in another thread, the update needs more memory then the 500 has. So basically, if Bookeen was to do the same sort of update, all the original Gen3's would not get it either.

Well, the Sony connect software can go stuff itself, I'm sticking with Calibre
Other than that, the new firmware runs nice. The reader seems more responsive, snappier. Random PDF reading is actually possible, instead of hoping the text will be readable and/or formatting it for the Sony, although it still gets a little confused on documents with footnotes. For instance, this article on privacy (interesting read, btw) which is not all that complex and only has 28 pages seems to flummox the reader here and there, although it is better than it was with the previous firmware. OTOH, a 1300 page Vista "bible" PDF I had lying around not only looked great, but switching font sizes took very little time. Changing the font size on bbeb files still happens at the same speed. I, too, prefer Calibre but I've updated the Sony software just in case I need it for something, such as my rare but occasional book buying at the Sony store (a whole 3 books since I bought my 505) .

If Bookeen pulls that with the 64MB Cybooks, it'll be all over for them as a responsible company.

This new update bricked my reader and I can't seem to get it to unbrick. Sony is saying tough luck. This is just a warning out there, don't update if you don't have the receipt for the reader.

UnderSeven, download the Universal Flasher 2.0 at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...versal+flasher and unzip it to the root of an SD or Memory Stick. Insert the memory card and turn on the 505. If you do get a menu, use option 7 put it into firmware update mode and try falshing your reader again with the new firmware. Also, if you are on a simulated Windows, don't do it from there, but do it on a real Windows system.
