Best desktop reader for German
One of the challenges learning German is encountering a word you don't recognize. In that situation, you want a decent German to English dictionary. The problem is that German uses separable prefixes for many of its verbs and no dictionary that I've seen so far really handles those well.
Here's an example of what I mean: (1) "Ich fahre am morgen früh." "I drive early in the morning." If I use the dictionary feature and look up the verb "fahre" it will correctly translate to "to drive." Now look at this German sentence: (2) "Ich fahre am morgen früh ab." "I leave early in the morning." The issue here is that the unconjugated verb is abfahren, not fahren. The verb abfahren has a separable prefix; namely, ab. So "ab" is part of the verb, except that it appears at the end of the sentence, often far away from its root. I'd really like to find a desktop Epub reader that knows that when I lookup "fahre" in sentence (2), it really knows that the infinitive is "abfahren" and looks that up instead of "fahren." Is there such a reader? |
