Power surge on the usb port. No charging or recognition by PC
"Power surge on the usb port. Unknown USB device need more power than the port can supply".
This problem has cropped up a few times on the Boyue section of the forum with various e-readers but apart from sending the device back to China there has not been any information on why this happens or what to do. Boyue is gone and if you live in Western Europe you’re going to be pretty upset having spent a lot of money on an item that can't be fixed. I researched local small repair workshops specialising in mobile phone and tablet repairs. Avoid the adverts where it looks like they are nearby but you are in fact sending it via mail to a centralised facility. The one I went to had high ratings from locals. The techie hadn’t seen a Likebook Alita before but reckoned that it should be easy to get inside. I explained that it wouldn’t charge and that a PC no longer detected it via usb. It was working and still had 60% charge. His eyesight must be very good because he said the USB C socket had two out of the four central prongs bent back. They are incredibly small and brittle. When he tried to straighten them they broke off. It wasn’t game over though because in my case it charged up with just the two pins. The e-reader is also recognised again by a PC. He said that if it had needed a new USB C port and that turned out to be non-standard it would likely have been unfixable. When I asked how much I owed he said nothing but I insisted on making a payment. Anybody know if the Likebook USB C port is a standard and easy to find part? |
