Campbell, Malcolm: Salute to the Gods (1934); v2

Before Malcolm Campbell (later Sir Malcolm Campbell; 1885-1948) switched to land speed record breaking, he was a driver on the international grand prix circuit.

This, a rare novel from this author, tells of a new British team entering the fierce and dangerous Grand Prix competition, in a period when most of the circuits were over public roads, often loose-surfaced.

The Ace company suffers terrible, inexplicable fatalities; the cars didn't fail, there wwere no other competitors involved, and yet they crashed at high speed for no apparent reason.

There is a solution of course, in the tradition of British thrillers.

There are "from-the-cockpit" scenes where the author gives a vivid and utterly realistic account of wheel-to-wheel racing in the pre-war years.

This is a slighly revised V2 of the book I originally posted in 2012 when this library was +50. The changers are minor, and not in the text itself.
