SD swap: Clara 2E

SD swap, anyone done it on the Clara 2e? I understand the internal micro-sd is coated with a silicon film. A swap to a 64GB card on my Clara HD worked great, I'm wondering if this translates to the 2e. Thanks!

You can swap the card in the Clara 2E. Just be careful to remove any stray bits of the coating that lands inside the µSD card socket. One user replaced the original card that failed with an 128GB card and, so far, hasn't reported any issues.

I did that just recently. In the end, it worked very well. But @DNSB is right: Be sure to remove all of the the coating stuff. It may not be obvious at first glance that there are still remnants. By wiggling the card back and forth, I was able to pull it out without any problems. But patience is required here.

I tried to use dd and usbimage tool and aomei assistant to clone the card to a 128gb one. However, no luck of booting using the cloned card. Not sure what I was missing. Do I need to do a factory reset before clone the original ?

You should not need to factory reset before cloning the original.

Since you mention dd, are you using a Linux system? Though your mention of Aomei Assistant suggests a Windows system. If you are using Windows, did you use the tools recommended in the Memory Upgrade Mod thread? So far using VConsole's USB Duplicator Image Creator and USB Duplicator Image Writer together with the Minitool Partition Wizard Free, I haven't run into any issues with creating, writing and resizing the FAT32 partition on a cloned µSD card.

Double and triple check and be 200% sure that all of the coating stuff is removed. I did this procedure with both, a Libra 2 and Clara 2E and each time I first missed to remove all of it.

It turns out that there was debris from the glue on the around the contacts inside the SD slot. I didn't know why the original SD card worked when I reinserted it back to kobo. I applied a couple of drops of gasoline and cleaned the glue. All the SD cards I created using the aforementioned tools worked. I highly recommend AOMEI Assistant or USB Image Tool as they are much faster than dd commands. AOMEI is even better because you can do the expansion with the clone.
