Aura H2O MicroSDHC card class 4 or class 10?

Hi, I recently bought a Kobo Aura H2O and really like it. I want to extend its capacity by using an external microSD card. I wonder if there is significant difference between class 4 and class 10 card on this device specifically?

Linear read speed should be at minimum 15MiB/s to be on par with the internal card.

Hi, The Class of a SD-card defines the speed it can read an write from/to the card. The size of ebook is to small to notice any difference between Class4 or 10. Class 10 cards are meant to be used in digital videocams that need to write full HD, so the few mb's you need to load is so small, it has no use to use a Class10 (but it doesn't hurt either)

Just so everyone understands not all Class 10 cards or any card for that matter perform at the same speed. Simply put a generic Class 10 card can have a better performance then then say a Branded Card because cards are some times rated at the bare minimum of performance for the specific class they are rated for usually. And some brand name cards can perform dismally because of this. So pay attention to reviews and actually specs on the device. You may indeed have a Class 10 card but it may not be up to the expected use in performance.

Hmmm... Class 10 cards are optimized for reading/writing large blocks of data needed for video recording and large pixel count still images. For your Kobo, the small block read/write performance is likely to be the more critical factor. Do a search on "sd card speed test small block" for more information on this. Personally, I test all new to me SD/uSD cards with CrystalDiskMark just to give me an idea of what the actual performance will be.

I once put too much thought into Class 4 or Class 10 micro/SD cards and bought according to their originally intended use. But it never fails that I swap out the cards to other devices when I need more or less room in a device, and then the various classes started to be a pain to deal with.

So I just stick to buying all Class 10s now, it saves me a headache in the long run if I ever need to swap around the cards.
