First batch of announcements from Computex
MSI have announced an atom-based 10 inch win7 tablet and a 10 inch android tablet using the tegra 2 chipset.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/31/m...ndroid-tablet/ http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/31/m...dows-7-tablet/ Asus seem a bit more adventurous with their win 7 tablet being a 12 inch model that instead uses a culv and a claim of 10 hours battery life along with a 10 inch version that sounds more like it is running a newer version of win ce. http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/31/a...ows-7-and-a-1/ They have also announced a digital notebook that sounds like it would be quite interesting for some people. http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/31/asus-eee-tablet/ Last edited by Crowl; 05-31-2010 at 05:10 AM. |

Main thing for all these things is for some competitors to get stuff in the shops promptly, reports a few weeks ago were claiming that asus would announce in june (close enough since computex runs into june) and ship in july.

Yes, so far it's all been talk, talk, some screenshots, some videos, but still no actual devices in a store so you can buy it...

Sadly it doesn't seem like they are anywhere near ready.

Eee Tablet looks like it might be the closest thing yet to an infoPad; cool! Interesting that they've all gone for wide-screen displays, except the EeeTablet, so I'd guess they're expecting folks to buy them more for gaming/movies/browsing than for straight reading??

Until they are more sure of the market, they are probably playing safe and using the same screens as their netbooks and smaller laptops, but it does seem a shame that on these smaller screens they don't go with a ratio of 16:10 or even 1.5:1 since that would be a better compromise for all uses than going with 4:3 or 16:9.

1- About time somebody realized there is room/need for a Core ULV tablet on the market. Tablets can and will be used in applications where an Atom (even dual core) would be marginal. Given that the Core-based ultralights run barely US$100 more than netbooks they make good CPU choices for a tablet. Hopefully more maufacturers will realize it.
2- On the screen aspect ratio, I understand 16x9 screens are now cheaper than the 4x3's, but if there was ever an application screaming for a 16x10 screen... 3- I do hope somebody catches on to the higher education market's potential and need for a dual-screen tabletPC. Core ULV CPU, dual 8in screens, full win7 and, yes a price tag closer to $1000 than $500, but including MSOffice & OneNote. That market is not all that price sensitive but it is *huge*. Money to be made, guys! |

Asus EEETablet: An 8" etch-a-sketch for $200, are they freaking kidding us.
If they had combined the 12" Eee Pad and the pen functionality they would have a total winner. Now they just have two losers. |

Thank you Apple for getting everyone moving faster.
The iPad is too little for too much and with too many restrictions. Now. Hmmmm. Christmas. Hmmmm. Any one want to buy a cat and dog? I need to start saving money. |

Damn. I'll have to make a dart board with all of the different models on it to help me choose.
Well at least some will be vapor(hard)ware. |
