Young, Clarence: Jack Ranger's Gun Club. v1. 23 Sep 2014
Clarence Young was a house pseudonym used by the Stratemeyer Syndicate for series of books for boys, the most well-known being the "Motor Boys" series.
The contest between Jack Ranger and Dock Snaith was the result of an argument on oarsmanship, which had taken place in the school gym the night before. It was shortly after the opening of the term at Washington Hall, and in addition to football, which would soon be in full sway, there was rowing to occupy the attention of the students, for the lake, on the shores of which the academy was situated, was well adapted for aquatic sports. Thanks. I should have thought of that. He left behind a wealth of books for kids certainly. I wager he wasn't the only one to come up with the idea of such books either though he certainly was prolific.

When I was young, I read a series of stories about a young fellow who was the wireless operator on a freighter ship and his adventures around the workd.
Does this strike a chord? |

I missed most of the syndicate's books in my youth. I would see the Hardy boys and Nancy Drew books in the public library (in the blue hard cover book format) but that was about all that I did see. Or maybe it was just that the blue covers stood out and got my attention back then. I wager a lot of the books are out of print though which makes the ebook versions handy.
