World Cup Fever!!!
Well, I've got it; is anybody else excited about the forthcoming World Cup?
There's a big match on Saturday; England v USA and on Sunday it's Germany v Australia - both big games for many of the members here (not to mention the participation of the French, Italian and other European teams). I'd be particularly interested to hear how this tournament is viewed in the US, with it not being one of your 'traditional' games? Come on England !! |

There's a BBC article about soccer maybe becoming more popular in the US.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/us_...a/10267860.stm Bit we've heard it all before. I think the US did a good job when they hosted the tournament, but if that didn't provide the breakthrough for soccer it's hard to see one in South Africa faring better. But do we want the US adopting our sport? They'd probably win it every time if they took it seriously. P.S. Come on England! Last edited by Sparrow; 06-10-2010 at 12:28 PM. Seriously excited about the competition. I'm not a big fan of League play (happens to often for me to follow it all) but European and World Cups are always great fun to watch no matter what team you support.
The match on Saturday seems to have taken on epic proportions where I am in the North West. It's like we were playing our arch rivals Germany, but more so. Go England!! |

England Vs Germany is always fun to watch. That rivalry has got to be over a hundred years old now and people get so worked up about it, then get drunk with each other afterwards (the fun ones do anyway. The idiots fight! )

Very true. And yes, sure, we can have a beer after watching England - Germany. The winner pays, that means you'll get yours free.

He was a gnat's testicle away from the winning goal. Still, a native Sowetan scored the first goal in the whole tournament, and everyone in that match played well. Next up France vs Uruguay. World Cup summer, can't beat it

I've just heard the first anti-US joke from a friend of mine. Here you go:
Q: What time does the England vs US match start? A: 19:39 but the US will turn up at 19:41 and claim victory. |
