AI submissions have also been a problem for Clarkesworld Magazine. See this post from the editor.
On Twitter, they announced that they are closed to submissions for now. I can't remember the last time they were closed to submissions. Clarkesworld is almost always open for submissions -- and very responsive. (They respond to submissions extremely quickly.) |

It takes time. You have to actually read the stuff and know all the stuff that is plagiarised to build the texts. Editors don't always spot plagiarism and then the printer, publisher and author get sued later.
Also the ChatGPT financial model is to sell the tools to detect it. |

There are several currently free tools for detecting content written by AI. One friend of mine is currently having fun testing 5 or 6 of them for use in his school. At this time, his best results have come from running multiple tools since none of them are overly reliable.

I've seen AI-generated fanfiction cropping up on Archive of Our Own. It's always kind of terrible.
EDIT: My favourite example would be one where one character imprisoned another. In canon, these characters would most definitely kill each other given a chance. But in this AI-generated fanfic, they just fell in love in a single line with zero explanation. Last edited by ownedbycats; 02-22-2023 at 08:58 PM. |

While that might be possible in the future, currently, the two tools from OpenAI and the 5 other ChatGPT/AI created detection tools I know of are all free. There are rumours that Turnitin will be adding AI written detection to their tools. The school in question is already using Turnitin, CopyLeaks (paid versions) and Google Classroom's premium feature for plagiarism detection.
