The first edition of this book is dated 1874. The edition used is dated 1890. The publisher was James Nisbet & Co. Ltd., 21 Berners St., London.

This book, like all Ballantyne books, is full of action and humor and mostly features one "exotic" part of the world. Here his playground is the far west of Northern America when Pioneers still had a right to that name and injuns were really injuns. A roller coaster ride through the prairie ensues. Lots of fun.

Made a cover out of original illustration. Four nice illustrations included! Recommanded!
