Rating stars in calibre v0.8.42
In v0.8.42, it's hard to identify rating stars' colors as they're a bit small so I edited 'calibreSymbols.otf' to make the stars bigger (and fatter ). For those who have the same problem, you can copy the attached 'calibreSymbols.otf' file to folder 'resources/fonts' (please read Overriding icons, templates, etcetera).
Edit: I only tested this font on Windows XP & 7, 1920x1080 screen resolution. Last edited by atjnjk; 03-13-2012 at 10:56 PM. |

Thanks...
Presumably, we'll need to repeat this exercise whenever we install a new version of calibre. Perhaps, Kovid might take the hint, and make the change permanent. |

It isn't that simple. Run calibre on windows XP or linux with your font and you will see the stars becoming too big.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Calibre2\resources\fonts This has worked, but as it is a sub-folder of the calibre program installation folder, I assumed it would be replaced when calibre is updated. Is this what you meant when you referred to configuration directory folders, or did you have somewhere else in mind? |

Thank you, that has worked.
In my case (Win7), the folder in question is: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\calibre\resources\fonts As you anticipated, the 'resources' folder did not exist, and so, of course, nor did the 'fonts' folder. I created them and copied my calibreSymbols.otf file there, and restarted calibre, and all is well. |

I cannot speak for Linux, but I suppose there still millions of users still using a copy of Windows XP which was released to manufacture in August 2001. Microsoft have said Extended Support for XP will continue until April 2014, so until then, there is probably little prospect of the numbers diminishing appreciably. Meanwhile, developers such as yourself must continue to support it also. |
