DRM Removal in Calibre (after books imported)
Sorry, but I'm a bit of a newbie. Please bear with what may be rookie questions.
I couldn't find what looked like the right place to put this question, so I hope General Discussions was the best place. If not, mods please move and let me know where it moved. I've already imported my kindle books to my Calibre collection. There are a good number of books and my 300 or so kindle books. Some of my kindle books were duplicates of stuff already in my collection in other formats, so I merged entries so that they have multiple formats now. Anyway, I was about to go and check Alf's DRM plugin tool that is what I always see referenced for DRM removal. However, after reading a bit about that, I think it only removes DRM upon import and as I mentioned, these books are already imported. Is there a way to scan through my entire Calibre collection to look for DRM protected books and remove? Or possibly a command line tool that will look at files that I can run manually? |

There is a Calibre forum here.

I don't think there's any automated way to see which books still have DRM or not. If you can open the book with Calibre's viewer, then there's no DRM.
You could sort by date for those books you know you added prior to adding Alf's plugin and assume those still have DRM. Then just drag the original book on top of the description pane in Calibre and that should replace the current same format of the book with a new copy that has the benefit of Alf's plugin. |

Please post responsibly.
If you have a question on calibre, then the place to post such a question would be the calibre forum. Thread now moved to.......the calibre Forum. Don (Moderator) |

There was nothing irresponsible going on. It's not really a Calibre question, so I didn't think that was the proper place.

Would this work?
Rename my "Calibre library" folder. Open Calibre which should show empty library. Install Alf's plugin. Import that renamed folder as new books and let it remove DRM. |

I would copy a few books (with & without DRM protection) to a scratch folder, create a new library, import from scratch folder. If that works repeat with full library. BR |

Sounds like you want to use a Bulldozer when a Garden Trowel might work
Install the Quality check PI if not already done Run Check ePub Structure: Check DRM Export to a JUST THOSE ePub files to a folder Now DELETE FORMAT EPUB on those Assumes those tools have been installed Then Add books those you saved This way, all metadata stays intact and you did minimal work on your library |

theducks -- really? Falling prey to the cardinal sin of assuming people are talking about only EPUBs?
(Especially given explicit reference to "my kindle books".) |

@theducks. You can't make even a slight slip when the tiger is waiting to pounce! Fortunately it seems to be a pretty friendly tiger.

Well, there is, kinda. I used the Count Pages plugin for it. I let it compute pagecounts for the lot, and all books it had failed on either had DRM or were corrupt in some (other ) way.
