archive.org downloads
Is there any help in downloading books from archive org and getting them into a format you can keep?
For their lending they download in pdf and you have to install adobe digital editions. I think digital editions interferes with calibre if you're using the plugin to strip drm doesn't it or something? anyway... any information on the whole thing generally? |

I regularly download old books from Archive.org. Normally there is a choice of formats including EPUB.
However the quality of the EPUBs is not always great - they are automatically generated using the OCR that has been carried out to provide the hidden text layer for the DJVU and PDF formats. I will usually download both the EPUB and DJVU versions and use the DJVU (image based) as the basis for editing and tidying up the EPUB. The above refers to the old books where there are no copyright issues and no need for DRM. BobC |
