possible to not save books in separate folders?
Is it possible *not* to have Calibre save each e-book in its library into a separate subsubfolder? By default, it creates a folder with the author name and then a separate subfolder for each title.
Although in the save template I've emptied the field where you can specify a string for this, it keeps doing it. Am I doing something wrong, or is it impossible to just save all your ebook files together in one single big directory? |

sure it is if you're referring to the action of the save to disk button. If you're talking about the way calibre arranges books in its library folder, then no

There were endless discussions about that here.
It is not possible. You are not supposed to care where and how Calibre organizes the files. Just like you do not know database backend details for other programs. At least, Calibre organizes its structure in a human readable system, unlike other programs (hint: Sony Library). If you are using Calibre to organize your books, you are supposed to use Calibre interface, tags, series, filtering (just click on a tag icon in the right bottom and play). Do click also on an icon to the left of the tag icon and browse graphical covers. Very cool. If you are using Calibre just to convert your books, then do the conversion, select the books after conversion, right click and choose Save, Save to directory. Be careful. If you add some tags to the book, Calibre stores the original version of the book and keeps tags and other info in a separate database. Only if you export books the tags and other corrected are merged into the book file. Please note, if you import a book into Calibre, the Calibre makes its own, private copy. It does not mess with your folders or files if you only use it to convert books and send them to the device. |
