Audible

Hoping someone can help me with this one. I like the way audible works with playing e-books and am trying to find a way to add other outside books into audible. I tried converting mp3's to both AAC and M4B and placing them in the audible folder but it still does not see them. Anyone have any luck making this work?

I had a quick look at this some time ago and there didn't seem to be anything available which will do this. Apparently the audible formats are based on other standards but they are proprietary. I'd certainly be happy to find out otherwise.
