FREE/BARGAIN - Non-Fiction - 2015
A thread for 2015:
We point out free and bargain Non-Fiction titles to each other. Please don't post any self-published books*, and please do a search before posting to avoid duplicates. In case no retailer is specifically mentioned in a post, it is safe to assume it's for Amazon US. Be aware that many freebies are only free for a day, so grab them fast! *Unless you have read them yourself, think they are excellent, and you're not connected to the author in any way. Today's Amazon Daily Deal offers 42 nonfiction kindle books for $ 2.99 each. Most are self improvement (health / exercise / organization, etc) type books. Titles include (but not limited to):
* The China Study Cookbook by Campbell (this one is normally $9.99 and I've been waiting for it to go on discount) * Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails * Eat to Live by Fuhrman * Gifts Differing by Isabel Myers Briggs and lots more Definitely worth a look if you enjoy nonfiction titles. The Free University of Chicago Ebook for January
I don't see where anyone has posted yet the free University of Chicago ebook for the month of January, so I'll go ahead and do it.
The title is The Hunt for Nazi Spies: Fighting Espionage in Vichy France, by Simon Kitson (trans. Catherine Tihanyi). 208 pages. “The story is at once confusing and fascinating. The Vichy regime tracked down left wing resistants and supporters of Charles de Gaulle’s Free French forces. It deported slave workers and Jews to Germany. Yet concurrently, it tracked down and arrested hundreds of German agents who sought to further undermine France militarily.… Kitson’s book is a highly-recommended read for anyone interested in the intricacies of counterintelligence.”—Joseph C. Goulden, Washington Times. Looks like fascinating reading. Are you wondering how, say, Amazon or Goodreads rates it? Amazon gives it a 4 1/2 stars, but from only 3 ratings at the present moment. Goodreads gives it a 3 1/2, but from only 8 ratings at the present moment. As usual for these free UofC titles, there are very few hoops to jump through to get the ebook. You just enter your email address and click "Get E-book." You will receive an e-mail confirmation with a link to download your free e-book. That's it--there's no requirement to get on any mailing list, get a note from your mother approving it, obtain a letter of credit from your bank, nothing. Easy peasy. Nice. Oh, if you want the dead-tree (paper) version (cloth hardcover), you can buy it for only $25.00. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 01-04-2015 at 09:35 AM. |

"1,000's" of Free Ebooks via BookShout! (their exclamation point, not mine, G)
BookShout! presently has "1,000's of free ebooks" listed at https://bookshout.com/ebooks/free_books.
I'm posting this on the non-fiction thread, but there are fiction titles, too. They're saying that they are "free for a limited time." So, if you think that you might be interested, don't dilly-dally around. Be careful: I noticed a book right away, on the webpage cited above, that was not free (it is $0.99). There might be more. So many ebook bargains, so little time . . . . Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 01-09-2015 at 06:31 PM. |
