Kindle Oasis (2016 version) Replacement
My first gen kindle oasis is starting the slide into obsolescence. The battery used to only require a charge once a week to keep up with my reading, but in the last 6months or so I've had to start charging it twice a week. Not a huge deal but it does mean that the degradation has begun in earnest. Plus, I'm not a fan of charging my eink reader multiple times a week. It should last, blast it!
So I'm looking for a replacement. My biggest "must have" is buttons. I am a button guy and will accept no ereader that doesn't have them. I do use calibre to manage all my data and it is drm free, so that shouldn't be an issue. Right now, I am favoring either the Kobo Libra2 or the Kobo Sage. Anyone have any thoughts on if the extra money for the sage is worth it? I read novels and that's about it. I'm open to other brands and models as well. Thank you for your time. |

The Sage is notorious for its extremely poor battery life, so if you want the battery to last, I'd suggest the Libra 2.
Then again, there are several new Kobo models coming out this year. If you don't need a new reader urgently and right now, I'd wait a bit. |

Thanks for that. Good to know about the Sage. I certainly can wait. But figured Kobo wasn't releasing anything new for another year or so (no idea why I thought that, but it was the thought in my brain)

All three flip the page fast enough if I swap hands. I have the page next & prior reversed in settings menu. Get a decent tablet (nothing to do with brand or price) if the 8″ Sage isn't big enough. I also have an Elipsa which mysteriously has no buttons but I stopped using much it after I got the Sage. Now entirely redundant. Sometimes the Libra 2 or Sage buttons need a second press, or turn off entirely (reactivate by using screen or sleep/wake). Four other family members have the Sage and are happy with it. One had Pw1 and another had PW3. I had an Oasis 2 and found it OK, but inferior to Libra (2) and was no better for tests than a PW3, so passed it on. Last edited by Quoth; 03-13-2024 at 10:04 AM. |

I'll keep that in mind about the libra2 buttons. I've never had a single problem with the oasis buttons, so any problems obviously isn't a good thing, but it is something I can get used (hopefully)

I've never had the Libra buttons not respond (the Sage has that problem, yes). But there's one thing to keep in mind with the Libra: press only on the outer ends of the buttons, not the inner part. They work differently than most other ereader buttons in this regard - only the outer ends are responsive.

I've not really used the Libra 2 enough as I either use my original Libra (narration) or the Sage (all novels). Probably I should give the Libra 2 to someone. I have too many ereaders. |
