Wanna get rid of "Take a quick tour" message on home screen. wasting visual space
How can I get rid of the "Take a quick tour" section on my Kobo Forma.
If i recall, in the past, after you go through the tour, it disappears. But these days, I've gone through the "quick tour" but it persists. I don't think i found anything in pgapatch that gets rid of this. This is how the kobopatch.sh appears: Code:

I noticed this on my Clara 2E after i enabled Parental Control for web. From your photo, it looks like you have enabled it as well.
I disabled Parental Control and the section went away. |

Yes, you're right. I have it enabled. When I turned off Parental Control, that section went away and now I can see 4 books in that first row. When I turned Parental Control back on , I still saw four books on the top row. But when I restarted the Kobo, I saw that dreaded “Take a Quick Tour” section again! But I want Parental Control active. Here's why: With Parental control active, When I long-tap on a word, a context menu pops up where I can immediately tap on “Search in book”. But with parental control disabled: When I long-tap on a word, a context menu pops up where I have to first choose “Search...” then can tap on “Search in book”. |

I tried what you did and yes, i get the exact same behaviour.
This doesn't really bother me as I seldom reboot my device. Just out of curiosity, what is the use case for you to reboot your device at a rate that this turning off and turning back on of Parental Control becomes annoying? |

My Kobo forma automatically powers off after about 45 minutes. I wish I did not have to try to find out workaround this problem. I wish this bug was fixed by Kobo.

Have you tried a re-install of the firmware you are using and then using it without patching for a while? |

Do you not want to save more battery power by having your Kobo automatically turn off?

If you use it every day, then no. The charge consumed by booting the device may be more than the charge consumed by leaving it asleep during that time.

Rebooting multiple times a day actually uses more power then your Kobo going to sleep. 45 minutes is not long enough. I liked the way Sony did it. Sony turned off if it was not used after 2-days.

It might be worth it on an Elipsa or a Sage (after a *significant* delay, I mean), because its sunxi SoC has terrible power management, even in suspend; not so much on a Forma, where the difference between suspend and off is barely significant; *especially* if you actively use your device.
(I'd give you numbers, but I can't find 'em . It's 21mA for an Elipsa, though, and that's... very much not great.). (FWIW, mine are setup to power down after 14 days of inactivity. But you can"t do that in Nickel ;o)). Last edited by NiLuJe; 07-15-2023 at 07:17 PM. |

I read your reply and reread it. But I'm still not sure what you're saying. Could you please answer my question if you could? Otherwise please tell me you cannot answer the question |

How do you know the Elipsa uses 21 mA during sleep? Is that a known value for the chipset, or has somebody actually measured it and posted the results somewhere?

USB meter.
And I've just re-took data from a Forma, and, yeah, power off is useless. A whole 1mA less than suspend, yaaaaay! c.f., https://github.com/koreader/koreader...ent-1214257679 For reference, a power on sequence will pull more or less that load figure for its whole duration, yielding on the Forma a whopping 9mWh/1mAh (those are *very* optimistic numbers, because I'm using KFMon's boot spinner, which is *extremely* more efficient than Nickel's (Nickel's basically full loads the CPU, this one... doesn't. At all. Meaning my boot sequence is both shorter and less power hungry than a stock one.)). (There's a tiny bit of noise in those values because that meter has no auxiliary power, so the meter's own drain accounts for some of this. It's extremely minimal though (orders of magnitude below those figures) and I couldn't be arsed to find the right plugs for my other meter. Also, it's the same meter used for those Elipsa numbers (and PW5 & Sage numbers), which makes for perfectly valid comparisons. TL;DR: The point of this experiment isn't in the absolute values, but in the deltas between them). Last edited by NiLuJe; 07-16-2023 at 02:07 PM. |
