Support multiple instances of same format in same book entry
I bought a couple of comic anthologies which came in both "high quality" (HQ) and "low quality" (LQ) PDF copies. I find it useful to retain that distinction (the HQ copies are a lot bigger but look much better on an iPad, while the LQ copies work fine on an iPhone). However, since both HQ and LQ copies are in PDF format, I can't add both HQ and LQ to the same calibre book catalog entry, since only *one* instance of any given format is supported. ie. I can happily add one PDF, one EPUB, one MOBI, etc. to a given catalog entry, but I can't add *two* PDFs to the same entry. Is that something that could be enabled via an obscure preference? Or might be a suitable feature request?
Thanks! Mike |

No preference, and it doesn't sound like something useful to enough people to make it worth the effort of implementing. (I could be wrong, Kovid would be the one to say. But IIRC it has been brought up before.)
@BetterRed has mentioned a few times an interesting way of keeping track of all kinds of duplicated content and extra info, by adding a link to a folder on the hard drive which contains extra stuff. You can stick the link in the comments field, and it should be in the format Code:
file:///DRIVELETTER:/path/to/special/folder/ Last edited by eschwartz; 09-23-2014 at 04:03 PM. |

Thanks for the tip re. file urls; re. sending the LQ and HQ to different devices: they would need to be individually identifiable (ie. the act of adding > 1 instances of a given format would require attaching a label to each one: in this case I would probably use "LQ" and "HQ", but they could default to an auto-incrementing counter) then I could just use a filter such as (format=PDF and want_to_sync="yes" and label="LQ") to form the virtual library for the phone, and (format=PDF and want_to_sync="yes" and label="HQ") for the iPad.
(More specifically, I currently use (format="EPUB" and want_to_sync="yes") to sync to Marvin on any device, and (format="PDF" and not format="EPUB" and want_to_sync="yes") to sync to Goodreader, so I'd just split the Goodreader library into two (HQ and LQ variants). |
