A frustrated hello to all
I am new to this e-books thing. Looking for a novel I went to wiki and found out it had been made available freely, with a link to this site and the e-book in question. I downloaded it and noticed it had an lrf extension which I had never heard of.
I have subsequently spent 20 mins on the web looking for a free lrf reader assuming that was an option. It would seem now though, that I have to buy an e-reader or try and find a converter that will convert an lrf file to a pdf or rtf or txt file so i can read it on my PC. The problem is niche interests like this, is it can get very incestuous and therefore stay small. Someone finding out about e-books for the first time is going to be turned off by the difficulty of not being able to immediately read it with a reader. It shouldn't be such a secret that you have to hunt for how to access this lrf file! Needless to say, I am not half as keen on this e-book thing now as I was 30 minutes ago. If you want to see e-books expand you might want to think about the experience of people who are coming to this for the first time and know absolutely nothing! |

Welcome to MobileRead, UKJohn.
Could you tell us the name of the book in question, and how you found it in the first place? If its not drm'd, Calibre will convert it. |

Would you care to share the title of the book? It may be available in another format. There is also free ebook conversion software called Calibre which will convert the .lrf file to any format you'd like (DRM-free books only). Calibre also includes a book viewer so you can read them on your computer.

.lrf can be viewed on Calibre. That is the Sony format, so you can view it using the free Sony reader software as well (it can be downloaded on the Sony website:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...YES&mdl=PRS505 It can also be read on the Sony reader devices. You can read it without converting on your pc using the Sony software or Calibre. |

Good to have your company, John. You've got to have a bit of patience to kick off with -- a bit like finding a book shop in a strange town -- but you'll soon get the hang of things and never look back. Very best wishes. Neil
