Unable to Search Within Books
I have a new, latest gen Paperwhite and I am unable to search for text within any books. I highlight a word in the book and choose Search and it comes up with zero results. I've tried searching for "The" and it finds zero results. I have tried with multiple books and all tell me zero results for known words. I have tried side loaded books as well as purchased Kindle books. I have reset the device but still no search. The books I assume are indexed as I don't get the "not yet indexed" warning that I do on some of the books.

Solved (somewhat)
Resetting the device did not make a difference. I had to factory reset the device before it would start searching again. What a pain! |

Kindles do not have factory reset. There is reset, which removes all user settings, content, and associated databases. And there is restart, which is a reboot.

None of my kindles has that. (Highest firmware version 5.16.1) I guess amazon wanted to increase confusion even more.

Can you search if you type the word into the search box, rather than highlighting it?

No, I tried typing in "the" and it found nothing. Everything worked after a factory reset. It's a shame it took such a drastic measure but I tried everything else; normal reset, deleting the index folder from the device, etc.

Searching for a word like "the" is always going to have that result. It's too common. I just tried it. But when I tried a less used word, search worked fine.

As for the topic. I ran into this problem as well. Restart isn't needed. Search function isn't immediately available for books. If you just download or sideload a single book, it'll be almost instantaneous. But if you do the same for plenty of books, the search will be greyed out for a while. Just keep the device turned on, read something, or whatever, and it'll eventually build up search definitions, and search will be available. |

I've never had any major issues searching on my Kindles. Some books, especially large books, like bibles, can take some time to index. |
