Introducing myself

My name is Rob. Avid reader.

I don't have an ebook and don't have any immediate plans to get one. Possibly when the prices drop or my salary increases enough to make it an impulse buy. I read on my laptop (or whatever computer I have).

Welcome to MobileRead, Rob!

If you don't have a dedicated reader, you can always read ebooks on your computer. MR has a huge selection of free ebooks you can download. We also have a great Wiki with information about the various types of readers available so that if you do decide to purchase one, you'll have some specs to help you choose one that best meets your needs!

Happy Reading.

Hi Rob, welcome to MR. "Avid" is such an unusual middle name.

I really enjoy reading on my Kindle. The e-ink screen is wonderful. Astak is releasing a new product "soon" called the Pocket Pro. It has a 5" e-ink screen, 8 levels of greyscale, the newer, faster Epson controller, and will be sold for about 200USD. RobertB, did I get all that right? Do I get a commission on any sales resulting from this post??

I think at that price point there'll be lots of people with new e-readers. I might even retire my K1!

Except I believe there are some geographical limitations on Kindle services?
I expect to be traveling a fair amount.

Welcome aboard! I read on my laptop for a long time before buying my 505. My father actually inspired me to try ebooks...he still doesn't have a dedicated ereader, but has had a series of notepad computers, back for 5 or 6 years now. He loved my ereader and bought my mom one for her birthday, but didn't want to switch for himself.
