Choosing Between TouchHD3 vs Verse Pro
Long time no post. Kobo recently died so I’m looking for a new ereader without an ecosystem and just for side loading. Not picky about speed or anything, but I want to get into pocketbook. I like the form factor of the touch/verse line so I’ll be choosing between those. I’ve heard people talking about the screen brightness gradient but wanted to know which model has the most even lit display. Thanks!

Screens are the same so you need to look at other factors to decide. The Verse Pro is the more recent model, which means for example that it has USB-C as opposed to the Micro USB of the HD3. And the Verse Pro is likely to get software updates for a longer period of time than the HD3.

I have both. The lighting is better on my Verse Pro. Otherwise, they are pretty much the same except that the Verse series uses a USB-C charging port, which is much more convenient for me these days than a USB-micro B.

And, as Zetmolm mentioned, it will probably get updates that the HD 3 won't get. I just wasn't sure about the lighting, since I've never seen a Verse Pro in the real world. (And won't in the U.S. unless I buy one.)

I have never had a Kobo. But I bought a verse pro last month.
Previously I have only had french e-readers Bookeen. I have to say that the Pocketbook verse pro is a very good e-reader. The screen is remarkable and customizable (cold or warm light). I do not use cloud or online stores so those functions do not interest me. I only read in epub format and buy books possibly only with watermark (without adobe digital edition). I cannot help you with cloud functions and other things. But the verse pro is a very good e-reader. It is very customizable (additional fonts, dictionaries and morphology, voices for reading and audiobooks, dropbox etc. etc.). I can recommend the verse pro. |

I have a Kobo (Libra 2) and a Verse Pro.
My Verse Pro has a noticeable gradient (and so does my KL2). It becomes more noticeable in darkness with low backlight settings. It doesn't bother me. I'm attaching some photos so you can decide for yourself if it would bother you: That said, my KL2 has a gradient as well. |

I don't see a gradient on my Verse Pro.
