Tobias Smollett, der Autor des berühmten "Peregrine Pickle", veröffentlichte "The adventures of Count Fathom" im Jahre 1753. Walter Scott meinte, der Roman zeichne ein 'vollständiges Bild menschlicher Verderbtheit'.
Die vorliegende Übersetzung "Graf Ferdinand Fathom" (2 Bde, 454 & 486 Seiten) des sächsischen Schriftstellers Friedrich von Oertel (1764-1807) erschien erstmals 1799.

Transkription und Basisformatierung stammen, wie bei "Peregrine Pickle", von H.N.
Das Cover fand ich als Frontispiz einer amerikanischen Ausgabe von 1907.
