Sigil-1.9.30

Sigil-1.9.30 represents a mix of bug fixes and new features:

Bug Fixes

• fix Checkpointing to work with dulwich version 0.20.46+
• fix css value parsing when !important is used
• EmbeddedPython fixes to work with Python 3.11 and later (thank you sharkcz)
• leave cursor position unchanged if nothing found when search groups of files
• make all Numeric items in Reports align right
• add support for thousands separator to Reports
• allow blank dc:language values to prevent crashing (as Sigil-1.9.10 did)
• allow unknown language codes to pass through MetaEditor
• MetaEditor under epub2, allow custom opf scheme values
• prevent duplicate spaces when reformatting CSS in import, charset and namespace
• better prevent random OPF attribute order changes to simplify Checkpoint diffs
• fixed file menu Print Preview for xhtml and image tabs
• prevent plugins from crashing Sigil by deleting last xhtml file in epub
• fix issue where images/css could not be properly added in an epub3 with no css files

New Features

• allow user to edit Checkpoint descriptions for clarity via Checkpoint menu
• add ability to show the Checkpoint Change Log via Checkpoint menu
• update to Hunspell 1.7.2 (released in December 2022) for spellchecking
• update to latest zlib-1.2.13 for latest security fixes
• move completely away from ever using OS system tmp folder for storing Sigil wip files. Instead create a new "workspace" folder inside Sigil Preferences folder
• added ability to Print Preview and Print contents of Sigil's Preview window

Notes:

The only installer that's appropriate for Windows 7 is the installer with "Legacy" in the name.

The latest version of the Sigil User Guide can always be downloaded from the Sigil website, or from its own GitHub repository.

Yes, That accidentally fell off my radar. Sorry about that.

Leaving off the doctype from the template itself and running Mend on just the newly created cover file should allow you to use a single template for both.

I will add it to my to-do list for the next release.

Well, I don't know if it's me but in Arch Linux (Sigil from repo, I still didn't do the try with a Sigil built by me) when I press the Printer icon in Preview Panel, nothing happens except that Sigil takes a lot of memory (about 4Gb!) and the memory is not released when Sigil is closed.

I did the work to add the feature on Arch and didn't have any issues. I build Sigil myself, but I don't see any way the repo version would be any different in this regard. Same code, same Qt. You're not doing anything silly like merging all the chapters into one monolithic html file in order to try and print the whole ebook are you?

No, of course not By the way, the Print... command from the File menu works fine, no problem there; the issue I have Is when I press the Printer icon in Preview Panel.

I can't duplicate your issue on my Arch system. I've tried both the Arch repo version of Sigil and my own custom-compiled version.

Yes, but this is not the cause of the issue. This is weird but the problem ONLY happens with epub3! When I want to print the PP with an epub2, all is ok; the issue arises when I want to print an epub3. Do the try with the following epub:

UPDATE: The issue also is produced with epub2 if chapters are long. Sigil takes a lot of ram memory when the Print feature is activated. On PageEdit that not happens. With 4GB of Ram, the feature does not work as expected (at least, in my system).

We'll look into seeing if there's some optimization that can be done. If it works OK in PageEdit (with the same content), we can surely make it work the same(ish) for Sigil. Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, the same content on PageEdit, all works fine.

PageEdit uses the same WebEngine widget to do both but to deal with both mathml (which PageEdit will not handle) and remove dark mode, Sigil uses a second WebEngine Widget for Preview's printing. We will take a look at that but 4GB is pretty low memory for an App like Sigil.

It will be low, but all works like a charm with 4gb except that feature in PP.
