Post rakuyomi: a manga reader for KOReader

Hi everyone, I'd like to show something I've been working on the last few months:

rakuyomi is a manga reader plugin for KOReader. It allows one to search, download and read manga from a variety of sources, tracking read chapters, and a simple library system.

Installation and configuration instructions, as well as the downloads/source code can be found in the project's GitHub page. Please report any issues/suggestions in the issues/replies!

MangaSee and Bato.to have caused me problems of not being able to find manga, so be careful with these sources.

The MangaSee source is a quite unusual one, as the plugin that implements it does quite a bit of processing - which makes it too slow to run on e-reader devices. Most of the other ones should work fine.

The Bato.to source should work, I've pushed a few updates to the plugin that should help with slow websites and some overall performance improvements; please give it a try if you want to

Thanks for fixing it, I love using that site. By the way, I would like to report a problem that caught my eye; When I save any manga to the library from different sources, there is no problem, they all appear in my library, but when I select the remove option, first the whole library page appears blank, but when I close and open the application, everything is as before, so I cannot remove any manga from my library.

Also, this is not a bug, but is it possible to add an option to sort manga chapters from old to new? Thanks again.

I've pushed a new release with a fix for the remove from library bug; it should work correctly now.

I'll look into adding some sorting options soon

Pushed an update that allows changing the sorting mode; just go on the top-left menu on the library -> Settings -> Chapter Sorting Mode.

Really cool idea. Is there a chance to get a Pocketbook plugin?
I tried the Kindle Plugin, but it crashed KOReader :/.

Can you attach your crash.log file? Theoretically the Kindle build should work, but there might have some differences between the devices.

There's also this GitHub issue about a Pocketbook port, if you'd rather upload/post things there

Hello! First of all, thank you for creating this plugin. I am trying the Kindle version on my Kobo device (Glo HD model). After experiencing some difficulties with continuous crashes when trying to open the plugin, I found a workaround. The problem, as similarly reported for other models among issues on Github, was related to the lack of automatic loopback set up. In case other people need it too, the workaround is as follows:

1. In Koreader go to Tools > More tools > Terminal emulator >Open terminal session
2. In the terminal window type:
Code:
ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
and hit enter
3. Quit the terminal and the plugin should now open without issues

This procedure must be repeated each time Koreader is restarted. If you want to make the execution of this command automatic, you have to:

1. Plug the device into your pc
2. Go to .adds/koreader/scripts
3. Create a text file containing the command above and name it profile.user

This way you should not have any more problems launching Rakuyomi.

Now, I'd like to report a problem: installing versions 1.6 and 1.6.1 the rakuyomi item in the search menu disappears, making it impossible to launch the plugin. I am back to version 1.5 for the time being.

Now, regarding suggestions and requests:
- would it be possible to include an option to download multiple chapters at a time (e.g. chapter 4 through 10) and not all of them? For very long manga it would be ideal so that you have a reading supply without filling up all the reader's space.
- would it be possible to include the option to delete downloads from rakuyomi itself? Deleting read chapters from koreader's file manager is not intuitive given that the downloaded file names do not have chapter numbers
- alternatively, would it be possible to automatically rename the downloaded files with the chapter number (not sure if at the file name or metadata level)?

I do want to say that these would just be improvements to an already great plugin and I think it's a big step up from other solutions I've tried previously, so great job!

Let me know if you would prefer that I post these observations on GIthub as well.

Hello foldae! I'm glad you found the plugin useful. Could you try v1.6.2 and see if it still crashes? If it still does, having your crash.log file would be very useful, it should be on the same folder as the "plugins" folder.

I was thinking of a feature that would download unread chapters only (so, starting from the last read chapter, download all remaining ones, or download a X amount of chapter). Would something like this work for you?

Right now, rakuyomi already keeps the space occupied by downloaded chapters under a specific size, which defaults to 2 GB, and it's configurable by the "storage_size_limit" setting in the settings.json file ("256 MB" or "2 GB" are examples of valid values for this setting). It's kinda undocumented tho, I'll look into adding it in the settings menu.

File names would be kinda hard to change, however adding it to metadata is doable.

I usually like to track those things on GitHub (and I've created some issues with your suggested enhancements), but feel free to post either there or here, both are okay to me

Hi hanatsumi! I've been testing v1.6.2 for quite a bit in different scenarios (restarting Koreader, going back to Kobo stock system and back again in Koreader, and so on) and it's working flawlessly, no crashes whatsoever! I just saw you released also a v1.6.3 but I can't test it right now. Anyway, I think it'll work nontheless.

That would be perfect.

About this, I tried looking for the storage_size_limit in settings.json (given that we're talking about the /koreader/plugins/rakuyomi.plugin/settings.json and not the /koreader/rakuyomi/settings.json) but I could not find it, not even with a search tool.

Metadata would be awsome. I usually organize my koreader library with metadata so it's he default view for me.
