A Call to All Ebook Contributors: Let's Get MobileRead's Ebooks Categorized
This includes myself in the call, as I've not been as diligent as I should be...
___________________________ Dear contributors past and present: Why don't we try this week to get all our ebooks categorized by genre. We have an incredible selection of titles and genres represented, a virtual wealth of learning and entertainment for everyone to experience and only a Search away from being discovered, downloaded, and then enjoyed. There are some titles I have to categorize, and you may have some, as well. So, to make that next ebook search complete: Here's to a Call for Complete Categorization (The Three Cs)! Don |

excellent idea ! and while we are adding the genre prefixes, let's not forget about tags to refine the classification. tags are good for mentioning the language (if it's not english), the theme, more specific genre information, and any other keywords that are relevant.
to add a tag, click on "edit tags" in the grey bar at the bottom of the page. separate tags with commas. if a tag exists already, it will be proposed automatically after you type the first few letters ; it's best to use tags which already exist if possible, to simplify searches (i.e. if you want to add a tag called "french novels" and you find that "french novel" already exists, don't add an s). to search by tag, click on "search" then "tag search" in the blue menu bar, or just click on "tags" on the tag bar. you'll see the most common tags, which you can click, or enter your own keyword to search. |

If you need help on the categories please read the wiki article on Genre for a breakdown of each category and some guidance. Be as specific as possible.

I did this manually a few months ago (adding genre and tags). But if you've posted more than a few dozen, this can be a real chore. I think Patricia had said somewhere that there was an easier way to do this if you had contributed many books. Patricia, can you tell us again, please?

I found it:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/ebo...?do=editprefix This link should show up all the books that a person has made, and allow them to edit the prefixes quickly. |

I see that there are still 1143 ebooks in the MR library without an assigned genre out of a total of 6688.

I see that there are only 5 fewer ebooks in the MR library without an assigned genre since a few weeks ago. Another 1138 to go.
