Kobo Glo "SleepCover" accessory
A search for "sleepcover" brought up only on thread on Mobileread, where the SleepCover was only mentioned as an aside. Is that just my imagination.
The idea of it sleeping the device simply by closing the cover is kind of cool. I suppose with it being an e-ink e-reader there's little to no actual value in turning it off unless the glow function is on, though. Any thoughts on whether this is worth tacking $39.99 onto my Kobo Glo pre-order? |

If it uses magnets to do this, like the Nexus 7 and various other devices, we may see less expensive covers later on.

I'd say a complete waste of $50. Why not just buy a generic neoprene zippered case for $7 or $10 on eBay. And turn the Kobo on yourself which only takes a few seconds for you to do.

I will say that since the back snaps on and off, that making cases for the new Touch's will be easier. Especially cases that don't have elastic in the corners.
Just remove the back, snap the Touch into the case and it is permanently mounted. |

Unfortunately, this won't work for the Glo. Only the Mini model has a back that snaps on and off to accommodate different color backs.

Putting a small rare earth magnet into my existing Kobo cover makes the Glo go to sleep nicely.
The sweet spot is over the screen, near the lower right corner... approximately 0.5cm from the bottom of the screen. |

Neat! For the uninitiated (such as myself), where does one get such a thing as a rare earth magnet?

A small fridge magnet--you know, the kind that holds light weight things onto your fridge works too. You don't need (or probably want) anything very strong.

Heh... I work down the road from their Lee Valley Tools' Ottawa location (which is also their corp headquarters and where they have a machine shop to make custom items that you can't get elsewhere).
If you have a Princess Auto in your area they often have rare earth magnets too. http://www.princessauto.com/pal/loca...oreLocator.jsp Hope this helps! |
