When I read on my phone I use the lowest backlighting possible.

If there's a "nighttime" setting, use that. If not, see if you can switch it so the background is dark and the text is light. Fiddle with the brightness setting of the screen so it's as low as it can be without making it hard to read the text. And take breaks! I normally try to look away from the screen every half hour or so, to give my eyes something else to focus on.

Keep the ambient light whilst you read well lit, do not read the tablet in a darkened room. I used to get blinding headaches whilst reading my PDA in a darkened room.
Ensure you have breaks away from your tablet as well. |

Low back-light settings and take regular breaks.

when you feel your eyelids closing, just turn it off and sleep.

You didn't mention how old you are. If you are of 'a certain age', an inexpensive pair of reading glasses might help. I'd select them to work at the exact distance You hold the reader from your eyes while in bed.

Honestly, I would save up $79 for an e-ink reader! It's a world of difference, really.
Barring that, nighttime mode (white text on black background) helps a lot at night. If your reading app doesn't offer that, try a different app. eP |

We aren't meant to read in the dark. Increase the font, or get glasses, or turn on a light. Or all the above.

will try each one a go and see what suits me better.
except for buying an e-ink reader as i can't get one in our country so i had to choose the sgt p1010 as they were readily available due to the sudden popularity of tablets. |
