Sorry if this has been discussed, but a most casual search didn't turn anything up on this. See this link to Cnet:

The article isn't clear if the action is 1) real and 2) a result of disappointing sales, or the advance of technology. But this and other economic news regarding B&N makes me wonder just how healthy they are.

their getting ready to bring out the nook with pearl display so the original nook is on the way out. they wont be making more so they put out word to resellers to not order more

Yes, that's what the article has speculated. But the lack of hard info leaves plenty of room for mischief.

By other economic news, do you mean that B&N laid off 50 corporate employees, including most of its book-buying staff? It's a little odd for a company that claims to be doing well.
