Hyperion- Dan Simmons.
Not sure if I spelled it correctly but oh well.
It seems to have a 4 to 5 star rating. To those that read it is it worth reading? I am about 30 pages in and find it boring so far. I am wondering if I should stick with it. I often give up if I am bored this early. I am a big fan of Carrion Comfort and The Terror. Last edited by HLS; 08-28-2021 at 05:09 PM. |

I enjoyed these when I first read them some decades ago, but when I picked them up more recently I found them to be a lot of work for not much satisfaction. So I'm not sure if the books haven't aged so well, or if it's just that my tastes have changed.

Hyperion is based on The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. Hyperion does a much much better job on a similar theme. I really like Hyperion and I really dislike The Canterbury Tales.

My experience was much the same. I DO remember being a bit confused at the beginning. I get the whole "Canterbury Tales" approach, but it was only actually done that way for one book. I enjoyed the later installments much more.

I thoroughly enjoyed the series. Listened to the audiobooks a few years later and still enjoyed them.
In consideration of gmw's and DiapDealer's responses I think I'll leave it at that and not revisit them. |

It's a science fiction classic. I enjoyed it when I read it many years ago, but I didn't continue the series. Maybe I should revisit it one of these days.

I was enthralled when I read the series 10-12 years ago. One fairly minor quibble, as I recall, was that to me there was a very slight quality drop off in the 2nd and 4th books. By that I mean Hyperion and Endymion were astonishingly great, and their sequels/2nd halves were merely excellent.
I'd definitely like to get these books into the mix for a re-read. |

My favorite book. Keep going! Book 2 is just as good. 3 and 4 is a tad different, and some doesn't like them as much.
