As I read, it has two modes:
- colour with backlight on, lower resolution because you need rgb-pixels - monochrome, higher resolution, without backlight, but reflective (I hope I got this right), so sunlight is used to light the display - the brighter the light, the better the view. |

Since it runs linux, getting ebook reader apps running on it should be trivial.
