Cool Free (Kindle) Swords Against Darkness [Classic Sword & Sorcery Fantasy Anthology]

Swords Against Darkness credited as by the late Robert E. Howard (ISFDB, Wikipedia, SFE), creator of the classic character Conan the Barbarian and considered the founder of sword & sorcery, and edited by the late Andrew J. Offutt (ISFDB, Wikipedia, SFE) is the vintage 1st volume in the Swords Against Darkness anthology series (Wikipedia) of original sword & sorcery adventure tales in the classic pulp vein of Robert E. Howard, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press' Venture imprint.

This was originally published in 1974 by Robert Hale, according to the frontmatter credits which are possibly slightly erroneous, since both ISFDB and Wikipedia seem to think these originally appeared in 1977 from Kensington's Zebra imprint, attributed to Offutt only, though it does contain one of Howard's own classic vintage stories, introduced by Offutt.

It looks like a pretty nice presentation, with each story prefaced by an introduction, and contributors including notable authors such as SFWA Grand Master Poul Anderson, frequent British Fantasy Award horror awardee Ramsey Campbell, popular MilSF author David Drake, and more.

Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK and pretty much everywhere else Amazon sells worldwide, since this is being done via their KDP Select exclusive-or-else program)

Description
Swords Against Darkness is a collection of short stories in the tradition of Robert E. Howard...

Robert E. Howard provides weird surprises in a tale of a Spanish opportunist, a “lost” Aztec city, and a centuries-old mage — in what may be the last story REH ever wrote...

The goddess of Chance gambles with a barbarian swordsman — for his life...

The Empire of Rome is threatened with disaster by a barbaric sorcerer who raises mindless killers for the earth itself...

The last survivor of Atlantis is called upon to do battle against a human-eating creature only he can brave — to save a race of giants...

Alongside other all-new tales of menace, high adventure and derring-do, written especially for this volume!

This excellent showcase for heroic fantasy fiction is certainly a must read for any fan of sword and sorcery.
