Ahh ein neuer Thread, ich hatte meine Hörbücher sonst immer unter den Büchern gepostet, aber warum eigentlich nicht.
Von der Autorin habe ich vor langer Zeit "Die geheime Geschichte" (1992) gelesen, die mir sehr gut gefallen hatte, obwohl ich mich heute und unzählige Bücher später, kaum noch erinnern kann. Ich weiß aber noch, dass das Buch damals in aller Munde war. Für die Autorin ist es erst das 3. Buch, aber offenbar hatte sich das erste Buch so gut verkauft, dass sie erstmal ausgesorgt hatte. Das 2. "Der kleine Freund" kam in der Kritik nicht so gut weg und liegt bei mir auch noch ungelesen irgendwo. @Marc_liest Du liest Pulitzerpreisträger? Ich habe es auch schon auf die Merkliste bei Audible gesetzt, wäre schön, wenn du dann berichtest, wie es dir gefallen hat. Für mich wirkte die Inhaltsangabe aber im ersten Moment eher abschreckend. Bin mir nicht sicher, ob die immerhin 33 1/2 Stunden Hörbuch etwas für mich sind. |

Ich stimme zu, gute Idee.
Ich bin irgendwie in der "Erholungsphase" nach den gut 20 Stunden von The Moonstone und höre ein paar kürzere Sachen von meiner ständig wachsenden Liste. Über Ostern habe ich Taltos von Steven Brust gehört, aus der Vlad-Taltos-Serie, die ich vor vielen Jahren mal angefangen hatte und die irgendwie immer auf meinem TBR geblieben ist. Taltos ist zwar der 4. Band, in der internen Chronologie jedoch der Anfang, auf Neudeutsch: Prequel. Die Hauptfigur ist Vlad Taltos, ein Profikiller in einer Welt, in der Menschen eine ethnische Minderheit sind. Die Bücher sind recht kurz, mit wenig langatmigen Beschreibungen, dafür vielen intelligenten und witzigen Dialogen. So gesehen sehr gut als Hörbücher geeignet. Aktuell höre ich Doctor Who: 11 Doctors, 11 Stories, eine Anthologie zum 50. Jahrestag von Doctor Who. Die Geschichten sind alle von bekannten britischen Jugendbuchautoren geschrieben und gefallen mir bisher gut. Die Gutenachtgeschichte ist vorsichtshalber wieder etwas, das ich schon kenne: Just One Damned Thing After Another von Jodi Taylor, der erste Band der Chronicles of St. Mary's, einer Forschungsinstitution, die Historiker via Zeitreise in die Vergangenheit schickt, um historische Ereignisse aus erster Hand zu erleben. Nicht ganz so gut wie Connie Willis' Zeitreisebücher, aber es macht trotzdem viel Spaß. |

Ich hatte mal wieder Lust auf einen Agatha Christie Krimi und habe mir Mord im Orientexpress gelesen von Stefan Wilkening angehört. amazon
Obwohl mir Hercule Poirot immer etwas zu superschlau ist, gefällt mir dieser Fall aufgrund des Motivs sehr gut. Wilkening liest das Buch für meinen Geschmack hervorragend, sehr dezent in den Dialekten und weiblichen Figuren, eine echte Lesung und kein Hörspiel. Ich kenne auch den Film sehr gut und dieser ist zur Abwechslung mal relativ dicht an der Vorlage. Bei so manch anderer Christie-Verfilmung werden gerne mal neue Figuren erfunden, Motive oder sogar der Mord an sich umgeschrieben. Edit: Krassestes Beispiel ist der Wachsblumenstrauß, im Buch ermittelt Poirot und nicht Miss Marple, wie in der Verfilmung mit Margaret Rutherford, die aber auf ihre Weise auch wieder genial ist, obwohl sie mit der Miss Marple Figur so gar nichts gemein hat. Ich habe gerade entdeckt, dass das Buch auch im Mai auf Deutsch erscheint. amazon
Das hatte ich gar nicht für möglich gehalten, da ja der Doctor hierzulande eher ein Schattendasein fristet. |

Dieses Wochenende habe ich zwei Bücher zu Ende gehört:
1. Just One Damned Thing After Another von Jodi Taylor. Das ist Band 1 der Chronicles of St. Mary's, einer Forschungseinrichtung, die Historiker in die Vergangenheit schickt, um zu sehen, wie alles wirklich war. Ich hatte es letztes Jahr als Ebook gelesen und es hat mir so gut gefallen, dass ich nun das Hörbuch auch noch gehört habe. Die Geschichte ist ein bunter Mix aus Science Fiction, historischem Roman und einem Quentchen Romance (wobei Letzteres sich relativ gut im Hintergrund hält). Im ersten Teil reist die Protagonistin u. a. in die Kreidezeit und nach Alexandria. In der Zwischenzeit brauen sich dunkle Wolken über St. Mary's zusammen, und die ganze Organisation steht auf dem Spiel. - Ich bin schon sehr gespannt, wie es weitergeht. 2. We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves von Karen Joy Fowler. Auf dieses Buch bin ich aufmerksam geworden, weil ich Fowlers Kurzgeschichten mag und weil das Buch auf der diesjährigen Nebula-Liste steht. Ich hoffe, es bekommt den Preis, auch wenn das SF-Element hier sehr stark im Hintergrund bleibt. Es ist vor allem die Geschichte einer sehr ungewöhnlichen Familie, vor allem von drei Geschwistern, von denen eines der Familie entrissen wird, als die jüngste Tochter (die Erzählerin) gerade fünf Jahre alt ist. Hier mehr zu sagen, wäre ein Spoiler. Es sei nur noch gesagt, es geht um Verhaltensforschung, Bewusstsein und Erinnerungen. Insgesamt eines der (bisher) besten Bücher dieses Jahres. |

Inzwischen habe ich auch Teil 2 der Chronicles of St. Mary's von Jodi Taylor gehört: A Symphony of Echoes. Die Serie gefällt mir wirklich gut.
Mein letztes Gute-Nacht-Buch habe ich auch beendet: Das Dschungelbuch von Rudyard Kipling. Das war eine echte Überraschung, ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass die Geschichten mir so gut gefallen würden, eigentlich mag ich nämlich keine sprechenden Tiere. Aber diese hatten richtig Charakter. Vorher hatte ich es mit Frühstück für Kängurus von Bill Bryson probiert, aber das liest leider wieder Oliver Rohrbeck. Irgendwie hat er mich schon wieder so genervt, dass ich mir nach einer Stunde etwas anderes gesucht habe. Ich denke, ich werde es irgendwann mal wieder damit probieren. Außerdem hatte ich mir noch Hamlet vorgenommen, von so einem Typen namens William Shakespeare. Diese Bildungslücke wäre nun auch geschlossen und es hat mir ziemlich gut gefallen, obwohl es schon eine ziemliche Herausforderung von der Sprache her war. Parallel habe ich eine moderne BBC-Inszenierung mit David Tennant als Hamlet geschaut - damit kann man nicht wirklich was falsch machen. |

Na ja, bei Grisham bin ich nicht mehr auf dem Laufenden. Habe ich vor ca. 20 Jahren gerne gelesen. Den Sprecher kenne ich nicht, aber ich finde allgemein, dass die deutschen Sprecher schlechter sind als die aus dem englischsprachigen Raum.
Insofern war das Dschungelbuch auch in dieser Hinsicht eine positive Überraschung (Sprecher ist Stefan Kaminski). Er hat mir richtig gut gefallen. |
