Question Calibre USB Cable Sync with Boyue Likebook Mars

Hello:

I've been using Calibre Companion to sync Calibre with my Boyue Likebook Mars library: about 12.000 ebooks stored on the Mars' SDCard.

With Calibre Companion this is done through wireless media: either a Wireless Device connection or through cloud storage access; a matter of one minute or so in either case.

However , when I tried to sync Calibre on my PC with a USB Cable plugged to the Mars, the device was paired as an MTP device (with both internal and external memory). After that, Calibre started scanning the books on the SD Card one by one; with myb current library that would mean at least a 5 hours process (at perceived sync speed).

Is there anyway to speed up this process or should I desist of the USB cable option and stick to Calibre Companion wireless sync?

Awaiting your kind reply,

[INCANUS]

Stick with one or the other. CC and USB transfers are not compatible.

The initial USB scan can take quite a while as it scans the entire device. Once that is done, you can configure the driver. Do NOT delete metadata.calibre found on the device. That is the results of the scan and if that is gone or damaged, the whole scan is done again.

Calibre USB Cable Sync with Boyue Likebook Mars

Thanks for your prompt reply!

If both the Calibre USB/MTP and Calibre Companion configuration used the same path/file name expression for e-book storage, wouldn't both methods coexist?

Curious,

Nope
CC has its own DB population step (mostly transparent to the user) . That is not in play when you push via USB

Indeed not. They are different processes.

However, let's consider the following scenario, bearing in mind that both Calibre and CC would use the same path/file naming expression/convention:
  1. First, using USB sync, you push a number of ebooks (bulk upload, not practical with CC) to the Mars device
  2. After that, you update CC database wirelessly

At that point, wouldn't both USB sync an CC wireless device connection show the same library "sync list/state" when connected with Calibre?

Here goes nothing,

It probably won't do what you want. With one exception, CC ignores files in its reading folders that it didn't put there. The one exception is that a) when you do a wireless connect and b) if the setting "Scan for new books" is set then CC will attempt to add the book to its database. If the book is EPUB then this has a chance of actually working with reasonable performance. The main criteria: that the metadata in the book match the metadata in calibre, especially the UUID.

For anything else CC sends the book back to calibre for analysis. This is significantly slower than just sending the book to CC via the wireless connection.

No can do both, I see.

Well, I'll sync with CC wireless/cloud connection, since it works fine enough.

Much obliged,

Sorry for the necropost but I seem to have an issue with my Likebook Mars, in that when I connect it over USB it will show up as a device in Windows Explorer, but when I fire up Calibre it doesn't detect anything. Is there a trick to getting the device to pair over USB with Calibre?
