Oz help needed
I want to do an Omnibus of Baum's Oz books. I have a picture I want to include, but I'm afraid the humor is too dark. WHat do you think?

Sorry, Nate, just not appropriate. There's going to be kids reading your omnibus...

Thanks for the input. I should be able to get to work on the omnibus tonight. You can expect it to be posted by about midnight EST.
This one won't be illustrated becuase not all of the source images are available at PG. |

It's good as a joke, but it's not appropriate for illustrating an eBook because:
a) It's not an illustration of the story, but some kind of derivative work. (And I wouldn't use Albert the 5th Musketeer to illustrate D'Artagnan's stories.) b) It's going to offend too easily. |

I agree with Jellby, I like it as a joke but, unless you're making a book with everything concerning Oz, it shouldn't be included.

Does it matter if "all" the source images are available? Even a partially-illustrated book is better than no illustrations at all.

I'm amazed that this is children's literature. Most everything written for children these days appears to be dumbed down when compared to this series. |

Psst, Nate. If you leave out the sex and gore, so has the adult literature as well... |

I haven't read these yet, but "The Hobbit" is a story originally for children too, though I'd have a hard time finding a child capable (and willing) of reading it today. I got it as a present for my 8th birthday... together with a BASIC programming book (for the spectrum) Seriously, I can't imagine an 8-year-old child reading a book without pictures and more than 50 pages today
